I’m looking for a program that works well with Vegas that has particle emitters. I’m playing with demos from Particle Illusions and Mirage. I’m having problems with PI TGA files and Vegas getting read errors after one frame doing the import sequence method(PI doesn’t have alpha AVI which is what I would really prefer). Mirage does a lot of other things and has a nice interface, but is geared more toward drawing and the price tag is a bit of a choker for me. I’ve used Boris FX but don’t think the results compare with the two programs mentioned(and I dislike the interface, which makes me NOT want to use it). Is anyone here using Particle Illusions with good results? Thought I’d ask before I spend time learning another program to no good end. UJ

What if you give Vegas PNG instead of TGA? You could use another program to mass convert them.

Thanks Ed, I think I’ll give that a shot. UJ

Converted TGA to PNG in PSP9, ASAP, still SOL. Posted a message on the PI forum. UJ

How are you importing into Vegas?

    How big are the files?

    How are the files named?

Ed, I’m importing with the add project media -sequence option(the checkbox on the bottom), Vegas then selects the files according to sequence number – it’s something like name_001.tga, name_002.tga, etc.
I tried files ranging from 1024×768 to 640×480.
I had some success by selecting only a few dozen of the pics, but the subsequent import doesn’t cover the whole effect. It was still hit or miss even then. The fault message says “error, Metafile(something or other) unable to open”, and lists all the pics not opened. UJ

Sounds like you’re doing everything the correct way. Can you add the ones it lists as not being loaded directly to the timeline? Just wondering if maybe there is something Vegas doesn’t like about those files.

Well, I found the problem and it was a goof on my part. When selecting the images for Vegas to sequence I figured I had to select ALL the images that were to be included. I didn’t know the program would select all like numbered pics to be added to the sequence automatically when I selected the first one only. Thanks for the time, Ed. UJ
