I’ve been stumped for a bit now trying to get particles of any kind to attract to a text layer, gather to it and collect.

Should be simple, for I am simple.

    Hey Hoggie,

Are you using Particular? If you are then you need to set your text layer as the floor for the particle (you can have up to 2 floors per Particular layer). Then you just need to set the bounce value to be “stickier”. (I think I’m right on this one, I’m not at my computer with Particular right now but if I remember correctly this is how I did it.)

    Good Luck

Essentially, you’ll need a Porperty Map layer that has the text layer [white text (slightly blurred approx 5 for Fast Blur) on black background] as one of its Channels. The you’d use Kinetic Friction to have the particles stick to the Channel with the text.

If this doesn’t make much sense, then look at my COW tutorial, Fun in Particle Playland.

    hey Darrell,

I think I might have been a bit off on that one, I think there’s an easier way. The easier way to do this using Particular is to set your text layer as the emitter for the particles, then offset the Affect Position parameter in Turbulence Field so that it starts high, and ends at 0. This will bring all the particles together to form your word with a bit of tweaking. I find that if I duplicate the text layer and bring the opacity up overtop of my particle layer just as the particles form the word, it looks much more convincing. Steps 1 and 2 of this tutorial should help you out.
