  • Partial Text Colour Change Animation

    After Effects rookie here.

I’m trying to attempt an animated version of the first image attached below. I’ve got the circles animated to where I want them, however I can’t work out how to partially change the colour of the text for the parts where the circle overlays.

    Any thoughts?

Thanks so much in advance, pulling my hair out here!

With just two color, the easiest way would be to work in black and white, set the overlapping object to white but layer mode “difference” wich will invert other colors below where it overlaps. Then add a tint on and adjustment layer to change black and white to different colors.

The messier approach is to have a second circle (or second text) in the alternate color that is track matted by (a copy of) the intersecting object.

Since you have more than two colors here, I’m afraid the messier approach that Filip suggests is going to have to be your route.

When you duplicate your layers, use the copy with property links feature in After Effects so that, if you animate or change the properties of your layer, the duplicate that’s matting the other color changes to match it. That way, you only have to animate something once instead of duplicating work.
