  • Parenting Text Attributes ?

I have a project that entails animating about 160 words, sequentially, for 1st grader vocabulary/phonics drills. (I know, not very sexy but it pays the bills).

I set-up the animation in it’s own comp that includes animated masks, text animators, and a fill effect. I then copy the “master” Comp and just change the text for each word (the copy retains the animation) and then sequence the layers using the keyframe assistant.

After doing several of these – the horror of having changes to the text attributes hit me.

I can parent fill, mask animations, and opacity from the “master” comp to “child” comps, no problem there.

My question is if it’s possible to parent the actual text attributes like font, size, kerning, etc. ? (How?).

Also, if anyone has a better way to go about building a project such as this, I would love to hear about it!

Right about now I’m wishing that AE had the data-driven graphics feature found in Photoshop!

    Thanks!

You can write a script to build the compositions based on a ‘master comp’ with the style/animation you want and a text document with the words in it.

I haven’t gotten too deep into scripting for AE, so I couldn’t tell you exactly how to do this, but I know it can be done.
