I’m trying to make a simple magnifying glass effect. I have a bunch of layers, but the top two layers are 1)shape layer with a stroked circle, and 2) adjustment layer with ‘bulge’ effect.

I’d like to make the effect in layer 2 follow the circle in layer 1 as it moves around. I can line them up, but when I parent the adjustment layer to layer (1), it shuts off the effect. Why!?

Probably something simple, but… what am I doing wrong here?

    Thanks, Dave,

I actually had already used an expression to lock the Bulge Effect center point to the position of the Adj. layer in which it resided — which I forgot to mention in my original post. When I parented the adj. layer to the ‘circle’ shape layer, it broke that relationship, which is why my effect was ‘disappearing’. I changed the bulge effect’s center expression to lock to the position of the shape layer instead.

For some reason, it wasn’t so easy for me to pick-whip the shape layer’s position, I had to do some additional adding-subtracting to adjust it and make it line up right. I think this might be because when you create a shape on a shape layer, it’s not always centered over the anchor point of that layer. Do you know of any way to automatically center it? Would be helpful!
