    Hi guys,

Thanks for your responses on my previous question, they helped a lot.
Unfortunatly I am now eager to attempt something that seems even more difficult!

What I’d like to do is have a small video clip play in the top cornor of another video clip for a short period of time. I understand the concept of parent/child tracks and I’ve explored the options and mused over the help files for quite a while, but achieveing the effect I want still escapes me.

Essentially I want to do 3 things –

    1. Overlay a video track onto another
    2. Make this overlay small enough to fit in the top left cornor of the parent track (about 1/4 of its orginal size)
    3. Remove the overlay once the information it presents has been displayed for an adequate period of time.

I don’t need the overlay to move or be animated in anyway, I’d just like it to appear, show it’s information, then disappear.
Once again, any suggestions you may have are greatly appreciated.

Put your overlay clip on top of the other tracks. Then hit the Track Motion icon (it’s to the left of each track, along with other icons that control different aspects of the track), and drag a corner to re-size it. You can also click-drag the box to position the overlay wherever you want…

    Regards,
    George

Ah cheers for that – so I drop the overlay track directly on top of the other track? Or do you mean just higher up in the track order?

I tried putting it directly on top of the other track, but when I used track motion to resize it, it resized both tracks rather than just the one I wanted.

Take a look at the PIP articles in the first four issues of my newsletters. (Link under my name)

Ah that sounds great, just the sort of thing I need.

    Cheers!

You should still read the newsletter, but just for clarity sake:
You should have the PIP video (still etc) on the track(track 1)above your regular (or background) video(track 2). Then use track motion on track 1 to size and place the PIP. Vegas reads from top down. Whatever is on track 1 is seen over track 2. When you resize track 1 wherever there is space on track 1 then track 2 shows through.
