I’ve got a Parent and two children tracks. I can use the Parent Motion to control the motion path for all 3 tracks.

How can I apply a video fx to the Parent, and have it apply to the two children tracks? Is there a Parent FX function?

example — I want to apply a blur to the parent (and two children), and then have all three gradually come into focus.

    TIA,
    George

I see no way to do that short of rendering that small section and then replace that section with the new render and apply the blur to that event.

Would be cool, though, if it worked that way.

    Thanks for your reply 🙂

I was thinking of doing what you suggested, or saving off the parent/child composite as its own project, then adding the saved project to a track.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything…

    Thanks again,
    George

[George W] “or saving off the parent/child composite as its own project, then adding the saved project to a track.”

    That could definitely work!

Sure — you can apply FX to the whole group. Just put the blur FX as a track effect on the parent track and then inside the Blur effect, click the little triangle at the bottom left of the timeline (within the FX window). This toggle the FX between PRE and POST, and will apply the blur to all child tracks beneath.

    I’m not seeing that, Tim.

Track 1: Parent: Effect added: Otherwise empty
Track 2: Child: Video on this track

Effect is not being applied to the video – no matter if it is pre or post mode.

    Thanks Tim, this works!

Initially, I was not seeing it working either, but then I re-read Tim’s post, and realized he said TRACK Fx (not Event Fx). So adding the TRACK Fx, and toggling to POST-Apply will carry it to the children tracks 🙂

Interesting that if you do this to a regular track (i.e. no parent/child relationships), that it will apply the Fx to all tracks below the current.

Ok, I did the exact same thing I did yesterday but now it appears to be working. Not sure what was different between the two days.
