  • Parent a line end point (vertex) to a shape layer

I’m looking everywhere for this answer but I’m having trouble finding it. It seems like it should be simple.

How do I parent the end of a line, or the end point of a line to the yellow circle shape? I need the end of the line to follow the yellow circle shape.

So if the circle layer moves, the point on the line moves with it, the other points on the line do not follow.

There is a script in AE called “Create Nulls From Paths”. It should be under “Window”. Click on your path and then select Points Follow Nulls and it will create Nulls wherever you have anchor points on your path. Then you can either parent the circle to the null or vise versa. I believe there is another free script out there that enhances this one so you can also animate the handles of an anchor point. It is called “Create Nulls From Paths with Tangents”.

Absolutely the perfect answer Chris. I love this. I’m learning a lot here.

I need only 2 end anchor points for each line, no anchors in between (although my illustration shows one point in between, I deleted that in my project) . The path does look strange when moving the parent around because the handles are fixed after creating nulls from the points.

But the script you suggested solves that! What a great answer. I’m using this script (with a different but similar name to yours):

I assume that’s the script you were referring to.
