  • Panoramic effect on FCP

Posted by Jason Gomez on February 23, 2015 at 10:51 pm

Hi, I would like to mimic an effect that the Quicktime player (version 10.4 (833.1)) offers when in fullscreen mode. On the buttons, left of the ‘upload’ button, their is a panoramic feature that stretches iphone footage to avoid pillarboxing. I would like to perform this effect in FCP.

Just to be clear, the distortion that happens is quite severe, and only stretches the left and right sides of the video. The center remains clear and relatively undisturbed.

Can anyone recommend a way to achieve this in fcp? I am using version 7.0.3

    Thanks in advance

There was a plug in which did exactly that. Andy’s elastic aspect, but after a quick look around I can find it for FCPX but not FCP7. Maybe an in depth search might show it somewhere, failing try contacting Andy Mees directly.

Edit: Now that I think about it, the iPhone shoots 16×9 anyway?

    Hey Jason

If you want, you’re welcome to have a try with my “Elastic Aspect” plugin … you’ll need to download and install the old FxScript version.

For anyone that might need them, all my old FCP classic plugins can be downloaded using this link:

To install an FxScript plugin you need to unzip the file and drop the plugin(s) into:
/ Library / Application Support / Final Cut Pro System Support / Plugins

    Hope it helps
    Andy
