Panic with P2..
Hello,
I’m going to shoot a short documentary on the HVX200.
I wonder if anyone here can tell me what to do if:
I’m going to send the footage to a editor, I don’t know what software he uses, how can I do to send him the files?I use FCP and as far as I know, I need to open the cards through FCP. Is there a workflow around this, so I can get the files directley from the p2?
Another question:
If I film at 720pn, is it going to be smaller files? Is there any disadvantage when shooting in PN-mode?
How much space does 1 min PN need, and how much do 1 min P need?Thank You!

Hello,
What I mean was, is there a way to take the information from a P2-card and save on a disk, without using any editing software. I would like them to be stacked as movie-files in a folder.
Like when You take footage from a 5D, You get movie-files that can be imported later on.I would also like to know if i shoot a 720pn, 25fps – how much footage will I get for 100GB?
Is there any disadvantage to shoot in PN-mode insted om P-mode?

Yes, Transfer the P2 files from the Cards to to the comp. Back them up. This is your tape master.

Watch the first part of the tutorial…it is all about how to back up and WHAT to back up. The entire card contents…everything. Then you give those to the editor and no matter what system the are on, they can access the files.

Regarding workflow transfer your P2 files to your computer, run them through “raylight” software creating .mov reference files, drop all on a hard disk and sent it to the editor. He’ll be happy.

You might consider then using Firestore and record simultaneously to P2 and to
Firestore hard drive and because Firstore records straight in Quick Time movie files,
you can pass the Firestore to client or your editor,
or you can easily copy those files to a computer,
so in all cases no need for editing software.That should be covering 3 hrs 20 min (on Firestore), I believe as I never shot pn,
but I know when I shoot 720p25, 64 GB card records 1 hr but when Quick Time movies extracted through FCP are on my hard drive, it only takes 32 GB.
I believe that in pn mode redundant frames get extracted straight in the card.Test it.
