  • Pan/crop motion fuzzy on a VCD

    Hi

I did a VCD in Vegas 5. It has video and stills and I used Excalibur to match aspect on the stills as well as the PBS wizard for some zoom and pan. Only 30% zoom.

I rendered it out as Mpeg-1 NTSC-VCD. Everything including the stills came out fine, EXCEPT for those stills that had panning motion.

Those were horrid. Wierd fuzzyness and lines. It’s hard to explain.

Does anyone have an idea as to why those stills with the pan/crop motion didn’t come out clear and sharp?

    Thanks
    Allen

If the stills have fine lines, that will happen because of the interlacing. There’s only a few things that can be done. If you’ve already done “Reduce Interlace Flicker”, you may also try adding a slight blur.

    Thanks Ed
The “Reduce Interlace Flcker” box is already checked on all the stills. What I did do was to re-render at best quality and that kind of minimized the flicker to almost nothing.

I’m also thinking about the pan/crop template to use. When I used Excalibur 4, it just left the template at untitled. What if I change that to default or the :3 Standard TV template? I really didn’t notice much of a change there though.

I remember a while back I did some VCD’s with pan/crop motion and they didn’t have the flicker. Can’t remember what I did if anything though.

    Thanks

You don’t need to mess with the pan/crop template. Match Apect sets it up to match the project anyway. You should also always render photos at best.

    Okay. Thanks Ed.

Project is finished and on the VCD’s. If you and Gary would like to see one, send me your address in Email and I’ll send you one. They’re gong to some family and friends in China. The video was taken there.

Excalibur 4’s really great aftrer I figured out how to do a few things correctly. Watched the DVD 3 times and finally got it. 😉
