Panasonic Ships DVCPRO P2 Store Drive
Posted by Emery on August 10, 2005 at 5:08 pmI assume this will capture DVCPROHD as well… $1800 for a 60 gig hardrive, it better.

August 11, 2005 at 6:20 pmFor $1,800.00 you could buy a laptop and download the footage to that. A better solution would be a hard drive that could be connected directly to the camera and bypass the p2 card.

August 11, 2005 at 8:52 pmYes the price does seem a bit steep. For now though its the only “affordable” solution to shooting P2. Thr direct to disc recording will come but atleast we know we can take advantage of P2 at a relatively “affordable” price the moment the camera comes out.

August 11, 2005 at 9:02 pmI work with a SPX 800 and use a laptop which is nearly the same prize as the Panasonic thing. I wouldn’t buy it. The transfer speed is nearly the same than with USB. Go for a mac laptop instead.

August 12, 2005 at 2:00 pmReally, I am in pre-pro for a travel show and would love to recommend the HGX for this show. Even with this announcement I do not think it will change the thinking of shooting with the Sony 900. Maybe in a few years Panasonic will figure out the needs for real people doing real production. We do not shoot these shows in a lab.

August 12, 2005 at 5:12 pmthe HGX may not be suited for every type of production. it appears at the moment if you are shooting HD and need long recording times then P2 may not be the way to go so you move to a camera that does what you need. IMO panasonic has been looking and giving results for those doing real production .. the camera is not out yet and other then pixels and color space we have nothing to judge the image but as with all of the current hand size camera’s VS. the shoulder top of the line size camera’s the better image is with the larger CCDs/camera’s …
you mention the sony 900 ? are you referring to the cine alta or the hand size dv 900 ??
