Panasonic Plasma with Kona 3/HD Link
I’m having some trouble setting up a Panasonic plasma 42PZ700U to bars.
My hardware config is as follows: MacPro with Kona 3 and K3 breakout box, component SD to a sony CRT and HD-SDI to Blackmagic HD Link box to HDMI into the plasma.
Problem is as follows: bars with blue only option on the HD Link isn’t affected by an adjustments I make to the HD Link gamma controls, fine I won’t use that feature. Otherwise, bars in blue only appear normal in terms of saturation and hue, although clearly the panasonic is much more saturated and much greener than the correctly set up Sony CRT. To make matters worse, the only way I can get a hint of pluge to show up so the black aren’t absolutely nailed on the Panasonic is to turn the brightness way up on the monitor and bump up the blacks for each channel (RGB) in the HD Link gamma controls.
Is anyone else having trouble setting up these monitors to bars using Kona? Should I give up on HDMI and go component analog? Clearly there’s banding with HDMI as a result of an 8bit limitation in HDMI 1.2 apparently. Can someone recommend good color calibration software that will work with this plasma? Thanks much. -Jerome
