I was looking at the Panasonic 17″ HD LCD (BT-LH1700W) on the Panasonic site and had a couple of questions about some of the features listed.
It talks about a waveform feature. Is this simply an overlay image that can be input from a separate waveform, or is the monitor itself a waveform? If so how acurate/reliable is it? Would you still need an HD waveform in the suite or field?
It also lists CineGamma Compensation, specifically for the Varicam. I understand CineGamma since we own an SDX-900, but what exactly is this feature and it’s benefit?
    Thanks.

The waveform is good for field production to make sure you are in the range. Anyone experienced with a waveform should have no problems. The cinegamma correction on the monitor is ONLY for when you are shooting for a film out and the camera is set at 500% dynamic range, and 45 on the master gamma. If you are shooting for broadcast, keep it in the standard gamma setting.

I orderd my 1700w yesterday… I look forward to seeing it soon. Great price for a 17″ broadcast monitor!

    Thanks for the info.
So there is a functioning waveform built into the monitor?
Please post back when you get the monitor in, and let me know what you think.
