Yes, the signal is stretched back out to full 1080i resolution, so long as that’s what you’re outputting. The deck can output either 720 or 1080i.

I think so. You can download the manual for free from Panasonic’s website and look into it. Firewire related menu items are in the 800’s.

Does the Varicam itself have firewire???

In other words, can you import footage over firewire direct from the camera (Panasonic AJ-HD27F)???

about to produce my first two day shoot with the varicam and operator and hoping that at the end of the shoot we could quickly digitise the footage on site (will only be a couple of hours) using a Macbook Pro, before returning the camera to rental house.
Will be first project with such gear so any links/resources will be much appreciated

No there is not a FW port on a Varicam.

you will need to get a 1200a deck at the very least to get the video off the tape.

Yes — the deck can do cross conversion.
it can even take the 720p24 tape and out put as a true 1080 progressive image (instead of PSF)
