FCP 6 supports AVCHD by importing it as ProRes. Good thing IMHO. Larger files, better editorially and better with all graphics etc…

Apparently, this camera records anamorphically, at 1440×1080, which then stretches back to 1920×1080 inside de system, right?
What is the best workflow to get this footage edited and then put onto miniDV, since the client I am dealing with only accepts material as regular SD DV.

I edited a sequence in full resolution (Apple Intermediate Codec) and then put the HD export onto a DVD via Toast and it looks like the resolution suffered, it looks worse than regular DV footage… Is this because the HD footage is Upper Field?

What would be the best workflow from footage shot on this camera to SD minDV / DVD?

Sorry didn’t see you’re post before now.

You can simply edit in the ProRes 1080, then send the finished sequence to compressor and transcode it there if you don’t have a capture care which would do this in real time just playing the sequence and down converting it. The AIC codec you edited with stomped pretty badly on the HD and it may well be the reason your SD looks substandard. It’s a garbage in/garbage out situation. ProRes won’t hurt your video as much to begin with so the end SD product should look very good.
