    I have a video shot in 16:9 (DSR-570) that needs to be re-purposed for a 4:3 prog.

I’ve scaled the footage by putting it into a 4:3 comp then changing the aspect to -33.33 then scaling to 133.33 (all in the basic motion editor). I then adjust the horizontal framing using the center point, or anchor point.

    Seem fine so far?

Supposing I want to add a pan. I can place a keyframe at -133 at the start of the shot and another at +133 at the end of the shot, however here’s my problem – supposing I want to smooth the movement. FCP does not allow me to smooth the keyframe (control click). I’ve tried using other motion effects like Boris DVE, but have the same problem. Is there a way of adding movement into scaled footage with a smooth start and end, or do I have to export to After Effects?

    Thanks,

    Ken.

Control + click on the keyframe in the Canvas and choose Ease In/Ease Out. Adjust the small purple dots on the bezier handle to control acceleration.

Yes I tried that – I only have the option to clear. You can add smooth keyframes to opacity, drop shadow and crop, but not to motion or distort.

    Best,

    Ken.

Are you sure you’re Control-clicking on a Center keyframe in the Canvas? You should have options for Ease In/Ease Out, Linear and a couple of others.
