Pan & Scan: 16×9 HDV Sequence to 4×3 SD-DVD (Newbie)
I am struggling through the process of giving a client a 4×3 (NON-letterboxed) SD-DVD of a 16×9 HDV sequence. I’ve tried several approaches, none of which is perfect. However, I think I’m on the home stretch.
I have “dropped” my final HDV sequence from the Browser into a new 4×3 NTSC TV sequence. All the clips are now fused into one big clip — the clip of my original sequence. I am re-rendering it as we speak.
I now plan to “pan and scan” — adjust the shots to get the center 4×3 image framed properly so I can export it to Compressor and (hopefully) come out with a true, high-quality (though SD) 4×3 movie to burn to DVD in DVD SP. However, a troubling thought has just occurred to me: I assumed that individual clips would need specific pan and scan adjustment to work in the 4×3 aspect ratio. But if my whole sequence has been turned into one giant clip, how do I do that?!
Either I was wrong to drop my 16×9 HDV sequence from the browser into the new 4×3 sequence timeline, or the pan and scan is somehow applied once to the entire sequence. Or — and this is the scariest thought of all — I have to go into the sequence with the razor blade tool and chop my new sequence up into clips again, so I can custom-tailor the panning and scanning to each image.
I would appreciate some clear guidance on this troubling development.
Thanks!
