With VERY limited knowledge Ive managed to create some interesting titles, however I was wondering if anyone has come across a tutorial on how to pan from one shot of text to another shot some distance away (keeping a consistent background). Im sure you have all seen this done over and over yet I cant seem to find a tutorial explaining how to do this. Thanks for any suggestions.

You can do it a couple of ways.

Set your layers up in AE’s 3d space and move the camera from text layer to text layer. If your background is non-3d (whether it’s one layer, a bunch of layers or a precomp), it won’t move when the 3d camera moves.

Or you could parent your text layers to a null object and animate the null.
Create the null, parent the first text layer to it, animate the null, parent the second text object to it, animate the null, etc.
