Pan and Scan Issues
Hey all,
I am doing a documentary film with some pan and scans of wood-block carving prints (black and white). I scaned the images at a high resolution (300 DPI). But, because of the nature of the images (a lot of lines and detail), they are very flickery on the motion of the pan and scans. Adding flicker removal only slightly improves the images. Is there anything I can do to reduce and/or eliminate the flickering completely? Any suggestions?

Use Levels to reduce the the blacks and whites by about 10%. Reducing opacity by about 10% will also help. Add some motion blur.

Dude, give it a shot. I know what you’re alluding to. The solution(s) I’ve provided has worked for me, many times. If all else fails, then you can always use Premiere’s Flicker Removal which does a much better job than AE’s rendition. And if all of these fail, then add some Channel Blur. It’s all about getting rid of the interlace flickers and, I am assuming that you may also have, chroma crawl artefacts

Thanks for the advice. I have experimented with different combinations of motion blur and other blurs and have gotten some good results and found something that works. Thanks a lot.
