A couple of months ago we did a show in PAL for use my a European client. Now I’d like to be able to put a portion of it onto our reel. What’s the best software for getting a decent conversion, defining decent as the motion being smooth. Last time I did this I used AfterEffects for the conversion and the results were not at all acceptable. Ideas? Flo?

    Aloha Nick,

Here’s the best and easiest I’ve found. Does it in about real time.

Thanx, Robert. Deinterlacer is an interesting piece of software but oddly enough it doesn’t seem to be able to take a 1920 x 1028i PAL file and make a 1920 x 1028i NTSC, just smaller semi-HD. I’ll keep playing around, but still think I need other options.

Aloha Nick – did you try the CUSTOM button? I don’t have any PAL HD footage to try, but I think it’ll do it. Jan is also available for custom deinterlacing work and tweaked up his last beta version to handle a strange film transfer from the 1980’s for us.

Nick, doesn’t either BitVice or Purifier have a built in conversion for PAL to NTSC?
