I have an upcoming project which involves lots of shooting and the final product is distributed in PAL and NTSC on DVD. Shooting both PAL and NTSC is not possible due to the material.

Does anyone have any tips on shooting settings with the 900? I did a test of PAL 720P 50 thinking this would scale well for NTSC, but I don’t see any settings for capturing this in Final Cut. I’ve also tried converting 720P 60 to PAL and I get a lurching kind of motion to the shots due probably to the frame rate change.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks,

    Jeff

[jeff] “Shooting both PAL and NTSC is not possible due to the material.”

Then why not shoot in a universal mastering frame rate like 24?

the method and practice of shooting 24p and delivering to 25 or 29.97 frame rates has been well established since the dawn of TV, remembering that it all used to originate on film.
All Varicam capable NLE’s have the conversion tools available to them to handle this part of the process.

    Gary,

I have been giving that some thought. The problem is that the majority of the content is hand-held run and gun footage with camera operators who are more video than film guys. I’m afraid of getting stuttery pans, etc. Also, the client really wants a reality look to the content and 24 tends to distance it a bit. But thanks for the response.
