PAL media in NTSC project
Posted by Jon Wetterau on March 2, 2008 at 10:01 pmI imported my PAL footage as PAL but didn’t realize all the rendered effects (fades, slug etc.) would be NTSC. How do I change these settings in FCP? Do I have to re-edit? Will this be a problem when mastering DVD?

March 2, 2008 at 11:47 pmSuggest you use Nattress standards conversion to convert footage to NTSC then relink to the new footage or reedit to replace.
https://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
very reasonable price, detailed instructions, great results…

March 3, 2008 at 12:57 amI want a PAL end product, so I’d go to PAL, but then how do I link effects? It’s not like batch capturing as far as I know.
I guess I could then use this software to make an NTSC end product as well. -

March 3, 2008 at 1:10 amSorry I misunderstood your original post. What exactly is happening? Did you do an Easy setup for the correct setup prior to editing? For instance ‘DV-PAL’?

March 3, 2008 at 6:03 amI wasn’t smart enough to know what an ez set up was until now. Do I have to re-edit?

March 3, 2008 at 3:48 pmCreate a new sequence that is actually PAL (You can have sequences of all different formats within one project in FCP). Copy your clips (select all-then copy) and paste them into the new empty PAL sequence. Still have a red line over everything? FCP may have resized all your clips in the incorrect sequence to NTSC frame size. You can fix this by selecting all, then use the Remove Attributes command, by control-clicking on one of the selected clips.
Good luck.

March 5, 2008 at 1:39 ami created a new sequence, and made it’s settings PAL, but when I copied the media (which was digitized PAL but into an NTSC sequence, so it was NTSC) into the new sequence it has black bars around it.
How exactly do I make sure all the settings and everything else is in PAL? -

March 5, 2008 at 4:37 amPROBLEMS PERSIST, clips contain completely other media when changing the attributes of the timeline. Can I make an NTSC master easily and have a PAL one made from that?
