I have been working for the last few weeks on a project in a NTSC 720×486 format. I have been informed that I need to make this a PAL project. I dont know what to ask or where to start. I believe we are doing a 4×3 format. Im not sure if I should be in 768×576 or 720×576. What is the difference. It will be played at a convention. I believe I will be supplying a qt file. Any help will be appreciated. Or the right questions to be asked.

    Thanks in advance.

If all the assets you are editing are NTSC, continue editing in NTSC, and convert the final edit.

Best way is to output to tape in NTSC, then dub through a standards converter (terenex, alchemist, etc) at a dub house.

Can also be done with Compressor or Nattress plugin, but the quality will not be as good. May be acceptable in many instances. Do some tests.

Basically, PAL video is 720 x 576 and uses non-square pixels. The international standard is called ITU-R Rec.601, but there’s a useful guide here –
