  • PAL DVD converted to NTSC?

Posted by Jon Boffa on January 5, 2006 at 6:18 pm

I’ve searched posts on this and couldn’t find anything exactly on point so I wish to put it out there.
I have a PAL DVD that I wish to convert to NTSC format. I have a new G5 with FCP and all the bells/whistles. I’m new with Mac too, so there’s a learning curve here…

What can I do with this DVD to allow NTSC DVD players to view it? Can I convert/copy the DVD from PAL to NTSC? What are my options with the software that I have?

As always, thanks for any input!

Is this DVD a store bought DVD? In other words, is it encoded with copy protection (macrovision)?

    Jon,

If all you have is the DVD and none of the underlying files, thats a bit of bitch. It will require ripping the DVD, demuxing the audio, converting to PAL, reauthoring, etc. etc., etc. And, it will certainly require outboard apps not in the FCP toolkit. If you’re still game I’m sure many here will give you tips about the apps they use for ripping etc., but perhaps you should consider capturing into FCP analog from a DVD player and then going from there.
