PAL Colour Bars from FCP
Can anyone tell be if the PAL colour bars created by FCP are an acceptable format for UK broadcasters?
I think the levels are fine, but the physical layout of the test pattern doesn’t tally with my experience of 75% and 100% PAL bars – which are usually a set of full height bars without the greyscale, or the reverse sequence colour strip.
Maybe it doesn’t matter one jot!

The “PAL” bars that are generated when you ask for PAL are in fact what you would usually find at the line-up for N.T.S.C material. If you go to the same generator, (filmstip with A) and go to >others>more bars and signals, you will find true PAL bars. The default being 100:0:75:0. If you then go to the controls tab you can choose which test signals you want.

That’s a great tip! perhaps there should be a FAQ for FCP PAL users…we have to remember that Apple, due to economic reasons, is always going to be USA and therefore NTSC-centrique.
FCP is great but is primarily developed for the NTSC market…I can’t see that changing anytime soon. what do you think Peter? Time for a resource of FCP for PAL gotchas?

Thanks for the info, and sorry for the long pause.
My techie manager won’t go to 5.1.2 yet but its good to know the bars are there.
I agree about PAL forum – just a side shoot needed really…
