Most of our clients are in Europe. Instead of sending our feeds through satellite, they want us to start ftp’ing our shows. My question is: which codec is the best to use to convert the NTSC footage to PAL and not having a mega-huge file and also the BEST quality?

    Hi Scott,
have been few post about this matter lately.
The recommendations range from PhotoJPEG at 75% (YUV,422) for top quality and editability to MPG2 transport Stream.

    Hi Scott,
I don’t work with AVID, but shouldn’t be no problem with those formats. MPG2 Transport Stream I think is the format more widely used today for News feeds. Little files keeping quite good quality and no difficult for re-editing. Also universal, you can work with any PC or Mac.
H264 gives better quality than MPG2, but is more complicated to be re-edited.
If you need more quality because the picture have to undergo more processing, PhotoJPEG is the best option. No problem to bring it to any Mac or PC.
