We are capturing an NTSC source (digibeta) that is going thru a PAL converter (Snell) into an FCP Kona 2 config.

Our settings are Pal and we are capturing SDI video and embedded audio but the timecode is crazy. I’m guessing it has something to do with the 60hz ntsc and the 50hz Pal but is there a way to convert or stabilize the timecode.

Our goal is to set an in and out rather than just doing a capture now. Plus I would love to have the same TC on the captured file.

Any help is greatly appreciated !

Timecode won’t match because you’re going from 29.97 to 25fps so you’re going to “missing frames.” Also, PAL is NDF and your NTSC is probably DF so the farther you do down the tape, the further your TC will be out of sync.

We have had to deal with this very thing here wiht a new HD series we’re doing, but we do all the conversions AFTER capture using Graeme Nattress’ Standards Converter. This allows us to capture with accurate TC and then simply change to whatever we need later.
