I have some tapes that were shot on a PAL Canon XL-H1 at 25f. Apparently there is no deck that captures HDV footage shot at 25f (not “p”) so the camera must be used as a deck. I don’t see 25f as a supported frame rate on FCP 6. If I rent the camera to capture the tapes will the footage work if dumped into in a 720p 29.97 timeline? With Natress? I was thinking of renting the camera and having a post house do a conversion to NTSC but it would be cheaper to just rent the camera, capture and hopefully use something like Natress to convert in FCP. Anyone tried this?

I’m not familiar with that camera, but I’d bet that it’s 25PsF, which is actually 50i. You should consult the camera manual to check this.

The canon f modes are not Psf. Try Easy Setup “HDV 1080p 25” for capture. Should work perfect. I use HDV 1080p 24 for 24f footage and it works perfect. I haven’t tried using 1080 24p in a 720 30p timeline. If you get frame rate funkiness you could try Nattress conversions filters.
