I’m trying to rotoscope some fairly simple plates, one needs to be clone stamped and the other can be just painted black as the area is dark enough that the detail gets lost.

I seldom use the paint tools so I don’t have a ton of experience with them, but they seem to be acting crazy. For example, I set the duration of each brush/clone instance to one frame, but they are all applied for 2 frames and even after the effect has been completed, it still shows on the composition panel, making it impossible to progress. Sometimes the last brush stays selected so instead of creating a new one the old one keeps getting modified.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don’t have enough experience with the paint tools to offer much in the way of help, but (if you’re using the newest version of AE,) you could try using the Content Aware Fill option instead of the cloning tools for some tasks. Might be worth a glance.

Speaking of AE versions, what version of AE are you using? Is it 17.0.2?

What is the frame rate of your footage and what is the frame rate of your comp?
