CineForm imports it through Aspect or Prospect…

Serious Magic’s plugin should also handle it on the way in…

Yes but it requires additional software.

    I use

1 – DVCProHD Encoder (Serious Magic) and

    2 – CineformApect HD.

    Both for different reasons.

Simplest is #1. This “encodes” MXF files as avis. eg DVCPro50 from mxf to avi. Use directly in the PPRO project.

The other #2 – has a app within it – ‘HDLink” that does the same but also is a plug in for Prempro2 that enables editing HD as Cineform avis (intermediates) in Cineform Aspect Projects (presets).

Two versions of Serious Magic product – a standalone or DVRackHD which contains the encoder. (ie $195 or $500)

I am currently using Raylight to convert mxf files to avi files.
I can then use them to edit in Premiere Pro or After Effects.

I was looking at Raylight as a way of converting my mxf files to edit in Premiere Pro – I was wondering if you have to use the p2 card or have the slot to use this program? What we did was dump all our footage from the p2 card to an external hard drive, so that is where all my mxf files are coming from…

Raylight can convert MXF files copied from the P2 card to a local hard disk. You do not have to use the P2 card or have the slot to use Raylight. You can download a free demo of Raylight to try this out:
