At risk of being a dinosaur, I’m trying to squeeze all that I can out of my aged HPX170. I love this camera, it’s taught me so much, especially coming from a long history in stills. The codec seems pretty robust and the form factor is more appealing to me than a dslr or mirrorless, even as impressive and accessible as is the GH5.) But all good things move on… before this one does, I’m hoping there’s some reasonable workaround for offloading of footage now that Panasonic P2 apps aren’t viable on Catalina. I can’t figure out how to do a simple ingest to disk (not import to project) in Premiere. Would prefer to transcode after offloading if possible. Any thoughts? Wondering if Panasonic will revisit P2 Viewer and/or CMS. I suppose I’ll look into Prelude and Bridge, see if there are some options there. I’ve posted this question on DVXuser as well. Thanks.

No need to transcode footage after offload. PPRo uses MXF files natively.

Thanks, Steve for the shotput suggestion. I ran across it after I posted. But it looks like Prelude will ingest to disk. As for transcoding, one of my dislikes of P2 (maybe it’s inherent to MXF format?) is the required folder structure, and it seems a transcode to ProRes or similar would simplify my storage of working files.
