Just for the record I searched for this answer in forums and google and haven’t found the answer I’m looking for. So please forgive me if this is a really novice question.

It’s hard for me to understand that transferring my footage via firewire or USB isn’t compressing or down grading my footage verses a P2 express card dual adapter. The one thing I did find in my research was that someone declares never to transfer footage via firewire, but only with the dual adaptor. What is the reasoning?

If transferring via firewire and USB are ok, do I need to make sure I have good cables that allow all the bit rates to be transfer without it compressing it? As I’m writing this, I’m wondering if cables even have the power to do this…

I just want to make sure I’ve got the least compressed/converted footage for the final product.

Anytime you move files off a P2 Card onto a computer or Hard Drive you are only transferring bytes/data. THERE IS NO COMPRESSION going on.
    Data transfer – nothing else.

You can off load direct off the camera (not the best)

Put the P2 Card into a reader and plug that into a computer (preferred/faster)

Use P2CSM and verify as you transfer.
    Back up all cards.
