    ey everyone

I’ve worked with the P2 format before about 8 months ago and I’m amazed at how much the tech support/software integration has come along. I’ve just started on a new production using FCP 6 and I noticed a little oddity when importing…maybe someone here can help.

when importing from the Log and Transfer interface in FCP 6 I noticed a few of the clips wouldn’t import through the que. The little wheel to the left of the clip’s name just kept spinning until it turned into an red exclamation point…nothing was transferred, it just said clip is idle.

I found out later that some of the camera operators were swapping the 8gig cards between several cameras (because production didn’t rent enough of them)…could this have contrbuted to the finicky(ness) of the importing process?

anyway, I flagged the clips and just copied the whole contents folder to deal with it later. Then while screwing around in FCP I realized that when I switched off the “remove duplicate frames” box (thereby importing the footage as 59.94 insead of 23.98) it imported the problem clips easily. I can always remove the duplicate frames after the fact anyway, but what gives?!?

The only reason for this that I can think of was the switching of the P2 cards between cameras before they were filled up but then I noticed this problem with the FS-100 hard drives too (which were also being traded betwen cameras)

anyone else come across this issue or have a better explanation?

    Thanks in advance
    Ken

I am having the same problem but I only own one camera, so I don’t think switching cards between multiple cameras is the problem. I have been searching the internet to see if anyone else was having this problem, I STILL HAVE N OT FOUND A SOLUTION.

What I have been doing is importing on my Macbook pro that has FCP 5.1 and then copying the files to my desktop which is Studio 2. It has been a big pain. dubbling my start up time.
If you find any answers I would definately appreciate any solutions. Thanks

You both might look at Raylight for Mac which will allow
you to bring the MXF files directly into FCP5 or FCP6.

It will remove 24PA (advanced pulldown) from 1080i/60
and from DVCPRO50/24PA as well. See https://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac

It also allows you to automatically name clips from metadata and view metadata in the timeline.
