Heya, me again. So i am editing my first project here in FCP with P2 footage, setup everything for 1080 60i, and all shot in same format. I transferred all my footage from P2 card via the transfer n log menu (plays back beautifully in there). When I go to edit, I can’t playback more than 2 secs and it starts jumping and stuttering(no filters or anything)

I don’t think it is drive issues, as it is coming off a ESATA drive plenty fast to play in Trans menu and in P2 Manager…

It’s really hard to edit this way. Any suggestions? (do I need to recompress it- YUCK!?)

Are you sure the media in in your capture scratch which should be located on your Sata drive?

Sounds like your media might be on your boot drive.

Yeah, its all on the Sata drive.

Should I try moving it all to the primary drive? seems like that would be worse…

Does it stutter in the viewer? Do the sequence settings match the clip settings? Is the window size set to FIT TO FRAME? or larger?

    No, you shouldn’t.

make sure your footage and timeline settings match.

    I think I may have found it…
I had originally setup my scratch drive as a gigbit network drive, and I think all the footage is over there, not on my media drive…

I noticed a huge spike in network activity on playback…

I am transferring the data now…

BINGO, We have the slacker. I guess I need to leave the NAS to archival, eh?

Ok, mental note: Use local transfers to get a guaranteed speed.

    – Thanks for your help guys…
