  • P2 / PCMCIA reader for G5 desktop?

Posted by Gingerbreed on March 8, 2006 at 10:37 pm

    Hey,

I’ve got my HVX200, (Amazing) and I would like to copy one p2 card to my G5 while shooting on the other. The Panasonic 5-card thing is just too expensive and unneeded. Can anyone recommend a PCMCIA card reader for my dual G5? It is surprisingly hard to find one online. Of course I would prefer one with a fast transfer rate.

    Thanks,

    Jon

My research has disclosed that no 32-bit readers for PCI slots exist for the Mac.

Panny might have missed the boat this one.

    Thanks for the info.

Can you recommend a PCMCIA card reader that isn’t 32-bit? I have yet to find one that is mac-compatible.

If my laptop can read a P2 card, I would hope my desktop can.

If you have a laptop capable of this, why do you need the reader for your desktop? Just use the laptop.

Well, for starters my G5 has a lot more storage. and since I will be editing on the G5, it would save me the step of transfering files.

So back to my original question.

PCMCIA reader for a G5? Anyone?

What about something like this? (USB to PCMCIA)

    https://www.synchrotech.com/products/card-rw_22.html

That site has PCI to PCMCIA adapters as well. They sell some that have an adapter that mounts in the front of the PC (not sure how that works for MAC) – because otherwise, you have to reach behind your computer every time.

That USB reader is not 32-bit.

I don’t believe any USB readers are 32-bit

Here’s one– It says the platform is universal– seems cheap enough to try, and if it doesn’t work, you could return it, since it’s from a mac supplier, and they claim it’s universal platform.
