P2 MXF AVC-intra codec PROBLEMS…HELP!!!

I’m a first time poster on the COW. Here it goes…
I’m new to the P2 media and I have a Panasonic AG-HPX300 camera. I downloaded the AVC intra codec, but according to Panasonic, I have to be using OSX 10.5.6 and Final Cut 2.0.3-2.0.5. Since my system had OSX 10.5.8 and FC 2.0.6 I could not log and transfer MXF files. I would get an invalid file structure message and all of my MXF files were locked. I could manually unlock them, however this did not clear up the problem.
I’m in the process of trying to roll back my system so that I am compatible with the codec, however with all of the hurdles I’ve run into I’m still not sure this will work. I’ve done a lot of reading and seen many of the tutorials by Shane (Thank You) but I still am having major problems.
I read that Final Cut Studio 3 reads AVC intra files no problem, however I don’t have the resources to get it right now. Is there a way to get this to work without buying third party software? I know Raylight doesn’t support AVC intra yet.
So as of now I cannot log and transfer. Between the codec and OS updates/rollbacks I’m making, will this solve my problem? This has been a bit of a nightmare and I really need to get rolling here.
Any info is most appreciated!

Final Cut 2.0.3? No…Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 or higher. The current one is 6.0.6.

So you have FCP 6.0.6? Then it should work….but then you say:

Did you copy over the FULL card? Meaning did you copy the CONTENTS folder and lastclip.txt file? or did you go into the Contents folder and just grab a few of the subfolders? Unless you have the FULL Contents folder and file structure, FCP will not see the card or card dump at all.

That isn’t the issue…they are locked to prevent accidental erasure. This doesn’t interfere with importing into FCP or Avid.
So you installed the AVCIntra codec? OK…I think the issue might be with that INVALID STRUCTURE message…answer that and we’ll move forward.
Without the full directory structure, your only option will be third party, like MXF4QT and Calibrated, both of which support AVCIntra.

Sorry, yeah I meant FCP 6.0.6. I have the contents folder and lastclip.txt file within a folder. Once I try and log and transfer and put the contents folder in FCP that’s when I get the invalid file structure response. I just did a clean install yesterday and updated everything and installed P2 drivers and AVC-Intra decoder v1.3. What other reasons could there be for this to be happening?
Shane, thanks for the help you’re a great resource. I read that the new Final Cut Studio directly supports AVC Intra and you can directly import MXF files, is that true?

Is the CONTENTS folder inside another folder with the LASTCLIP file? Does that folder contain any symbols, like !@#$%&^*()..? It can’t if FCP is to work.

FCP does support AVCI natively, yes…but not MXF. AVCI can now be import into FCP using the AVCIntra codec. But it cannot import the MXF files and work with those…still needs to convert to QT. But there is no AVCI ENCODER…so you still have to use a ProRes timeline…but import is faster.
If it would just import, that is.

I am also having problems with AVC-Intra 50 footage. It was imported into FCP 7 using log and transfer. I have FCP 6.0.6. Log and transfer gives me unsupported format invalid structure error. If I just import the files, into ProRes timeline, I get a message in preview window that states “codec could not be opened.” I did download and install the AVC-Intra codec from Panasonic. Can anyone help?
