P2 Metadata Organization
I’m an editor that has to put together a P2 workflow for this production company doing 12 half hour shows. The metadata will be very important. Let me know if the following workflow makes sense. Field shooters will use a PC that a data wrangler type will manage. FCP will be the studio editor:
In the field
*Pre-enter metadata and format P2 cards
*after card is full, transfer MXF files to external hard drive #1 via pcmcia PC and add additional metadata to files with P2 Viewer (clip names, text memo etc)
*then copy hard drive #1 to a second hard drive
*erase and format P2 card with pre-entered metadata and give back to production
*repeat until end of shoot day
*hard drive #1 will stay on location for developing the scriptIn the studio
*hard drive #2 will be shipped back to studio editor
*When the second hard drive arrives back at the studio, the editor will log and transfer that to the raid for the edit.
*hard drive #2 will then be backed up to LTO tapedoes anyone have any suggestions or caution to this type of workflow? I have worked with p2 cards in the past but only as an editor. And it has been very unorganized.
The end result would be to have all of the season’s MXF files archived to an LTO with software that can search all that metadata. (any tape backup suggestions for p2 media?)

Great to hear that’s a solid foundation.
One other question is what’s the proper format for my external hard drives. I’m assuming fat32 is the way to go.
