  • P2 Metadata Import In FCP 6

Posted by Ben Cheng on July 31, 2007 at 8:08 am

    Hi,

I like to seek advice on importing P2 metadata into FCP 6.

    – Does FCP 6 import the P2 metadata?

    – Where does FCP save the metadata to?

From an article I read on Apple Partners website, (https://images.apple.com/finalcutstudio/partners/cameras.html), the metadata is saved onto the QuickTime movie, as XML format.
    Is this correct?

    – How do I view the metadata in FCP?

    – Is it possible to search the metadata in FCP?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,

Raylight for Mac ( https://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac ) version 1.06 will allow you to read P2 metadata from the quicktime player, or from Final Cut (it creates a metadata virtual slate which is viewable in FCP). Also the metadata User Clip Name and Program Name can be used to automatically rename the clips and organize them into folders, so that might cover what you need to sort clips by scene and take.

    Hi Marcus,

    Thanks for your reply.

I tested Raylight yesterday and it performed as you mentioned.

I do have some concerns about changing the filenames, and maintaining the link between the P2 MXF and QuickTime reference movies.
Most prob, we will stick with the original MXF filename, to reduce the strain of maintaining a database.

    Cheers,
    Ben

[Ben Cheng] ” do have some concerns about changing the filenames, and maintaining the link between the P2 MXF and QuickTime reference movies.

There’s no need for that because Raylight always combines the new clip name with the original clip name from the camera, for example

    “Scene 23 Take 5 0001QM.mxf.mov”

So no information is lost, however the file name can now be indexed and is searchable.
