Has anyone found a solid system of backing up the original P2 media? As of now, we are just archiving the original p2 media on drives, or our RAID. This is working fine, but if a drive goes down we would lose our backup. Has anyone used a Tape-Backup (data) system for their P2 media? We are considering buying a rack-mount tape backup unit. The Exabyte VXA-2 has come up in research. Is anyone using a similar tape backup unit? Any recommendations?

    thanks all–

We too are researching. I was leaning toward SDLT, but have recently found out that Lacie is releasing a Blu-Ray burner in December. I think we’ll wait and see about relative price. We currently keep all MXF files on two drives. The third backup is the Quicktimes created by FCP.

The Quantum 600A shows the most promise for building a searchable tape archive from MXF files, since they support that data format natively.

I can say that I have been using bluray in both 25GB and 50GB capacities for a few months now, and it works out well.

See my blog if you are interested in more details about it…
