I’m logging and transferring a couple hours of footage for a project.
A couple of times some of the spanned clips were erroring, they would get almost all the way through the transfer process and in the status column a red exclamation point would appear and when clicked on, would say “Error:unknown. I solved the problem by just setting my in and out points to shorter. Not sure why this worked, but it did. Now, I have one clip that as soon as I drag it into the transfer window, the exclamation point appears. As opposed to the other ones, it doesn’t even start transferring, though when I scrub through it in the preview window, it is all there and fine.
All of the contents and txt files from the P2 cards are on an external drive.
The names of the clips are not too long.
The particular clips that is having issues is “spanned” and is about an hour long.
I have researched this all of there place and haven’t found an applicable answer.

    Thanks

It’s cases like this that REALLY justify the importing of the native MXF files into FCP and skipping the Log and Transfer option.

    https://www.calibrated.com

MXF4QT is the best, and is more expensive for a reason. But the other two work just fine.

So that’s the best solution to this – to use some sort of third party software?

And, out of curiosity, what do you think the problem is? All the other clips transferred fine, except this one…Does it have something to do with the fact that it is a spanned clip??

[Sam Pope] “And, out of curiosity, what do you think the problem is?”

I don’t know. We offered a lot of suggestions when you first came to us with this issue and apparently they didn’t work. If none of the solutions work…then i don’t know what is going on. I have never had this issue.

[Sam Pope] “Does it have something to do with the fact that it is a spanned clip?? “

Got me. I always have spanned clips and I never had this issue. It might be some unique thing that only happened this once, but it might not. And when things happen that you don’t know why, or how to solve internally, you look for workarounds. ANYTHING to get it working. The third party solutions are one way.

One thing that you could try is to only look at the first card of the spanned clip in question.

In other words, make sure that the only directory that L&T is looking at is the first card of the spanned clip.

The first part of the clip should import. Then eject that card and add the second card containing the second half of the spanned clip. That clip should also import on it’s own. Then just put the 2 back together.

If either clip doesn’t come in, try copying the mxf structure back to a P2 card and see if everything is okay. The clips may need to be repaired in camera.

    HTH.
