    FYI to all HVX-200 users that are importing through MAC. I recently used a G4 Power Book to copy P2 footage to a Raid 1TB drive in the field. When I returned home some of my clips would not import. After a few days of pulling my hair out I solved the problem. The problem was in how I named my folders in the G-raid that contained the P2 information. I used the

    That kind of goes in general for computers and also FCP. Anything other than _ or – is not a great idea to use. Stick with numbers and the alphabet.

    Thanks for the heads-up on this.

    As a general rule, I avoid any special characters in file names and folder names. It’s a holdover from the old days where you were limited to characters and numbers. It’s probably still a good practice as there’s a chance an odd character could trip up an operating system as you’ve discovered.

    Just for reference, here’s a list of characters to avoid in your filenames to protect yourself from problems with UNIX…

    / \ ‘ ” * ? ( ) < > [ ] { } ~ ! $ & ; | # @ ` %

    Yes, I know that’s virtually everything that’s not a number or a letter. Hence, the rule of only using letters, numbers, and the underscore.
