P2 Import Exclamation Point / 27 character limit
OK, shot some simple table top stuff yesterday, all at once, didn’t power the camera off, nothing goofy like that. DVCPRO50 4×3 30P. Nothing fancy.
Copied the P2 card data to my xRaid yesterday, came in today and tried to ingest teh footage, about 12 out of 40 clips wouldn’t ingest. They would get about 90% done, then stop and show a red stopsign with an exclamation point next to it in the import cue. Hover the mouse over the icon you say? Well, I did and it said “Error:Unknown” Nice. At least it could say something interesting like “Error:Yer Screwed” or something.
Fortunatly I hadn’t erased the card yet, and i popped it into our 5card reader, and same thing happened, trying to ingest it from the card. Popped it back in teh camera, and it would play back. Tried to repair the clips, camera said “No repair clip!” Plugged in the camera via USB, tried to ingest that way, no dice. Nice thing though, was that FCP remembered the clip names, and if I’d already ingested them or not. Pretty cool.
So, I ended up connecting via Firewire, and digitized (oop, sorry, CAPTURED) the clips that way, and it worked. Weird how it treats an instant access device like a tape deck, rewinding, cuing and all that.
So, now to troubleshoot. I think this has tied to the same problem I had a while ago about length of file names with P2 importing. I went in and renamed all the clips that didn’t import “Test 1, Test 2, etc” THEY IMPORTED!!!! Strange.
27 characters is the confirmed max clip name length. After a little experimenting I found that this name would not import-
1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10.11.12.1
but this one would
1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10.11.12.
Could someone else test this on thier system and verify that I’m not nuts?
