    hey all

i shot an interview onto 6 4GB P2 cards, transferred to a P2 Store. i brought the footage into my Xsan via a Gigibit Ethernet attached Powerbook G4 using P2 Genie. i opened up “Import Panasonic P2” on FCP 5.1.4 on a G5 (directly attached to Xsan) to transfer the MXF clips to QT. on the first card, one of the shots wouldnt play back in the viewer or transfer to QT, and the last shot which was spanned to the next card would not playback or transfer either. i hooked the P2 Store up to the G5 directly, opened “Import Panasonic P2” and pointed it to the P2 Store. it recognized, played back and transferred that first card fine. my question, has anyone else had issues with P2 Genie not transferring shots correctly? if so, is there a way to guarantee that all the clips were transferred over OK. i’m worried about using this program in the field to offload a P2 Store reliably. i thought maybe using FCP to check all the files to make sure they transferred OK. but in this case, i would want to retransfer the first card, but i have no idea which card is the first card when they are all named NO NAME.

any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I had the same problem downloading with the P2Genie. Fortunately we shot 2 cameras so I was able to easily identify the card because of its size. I just match it up with the A camera. I’m hearing more and more negative comment about P2 Genie. I downloaded HD Log Pro from the following site:

    https://www.imagineproducts.com/hdlog.htm

The demo version will allow you unlimited P2 Card transfers. I will be using it next. In the meantime I would re transfer all of your files from the P2 Store so you have them. The most reliable way is one by one.

    Good luck!

yeah i got the HD Log demo and i like it a lot. but what i really need is the ability to look into the NO NAME folders to determine which one to retransfer if the original transferred with glitches. it looks like the full version of HD Log can do that, but $300 is a bit spendy for just that feature if we put it on every shooter’s laptop. $33 for P2 Genie was a little easier to swallow. i dont need HD Log’s logging ability because we already have FCS on every laptop.
