    Hi,

I’m editing a P2 feature at the moment that when all is said and done will use about 200 cards. I’m new to Avid and I was hoping someone could reassure me that my workflow is solid.

    – I have 2 backups of all the P2 media.
    – I’m importing ‘clips to bin’ and then ‘media’ into Avid.
    – I have a bin for each P2 card in Avid and then copies of the clips within ‘Scene’ bins.

If for some reason, avid’s media folder was lost, which is very possible as I’m just using a big Raid 0, I would simple re-import the media from my P2 backups, using my ‘card’ bins to find everything.

I have not added any tape/reel info to any of the clips.

For online I will just be bringing an external drive with my project and avid’s media to the online house.

    Thanks,
    Aren

I prefer using AMA v3.5) for this as I can create a virtual volume for this which is my archive so both drives look exactly the same. Should the edit drive go down, I can copy over the same virtual volume and keep editing. It all stays native P2 during editorial. When I get to the end of the editing, I transcode/consolidate the timeline as DNxHD and send to the online facility.

My folder structures in the AMA volume tend to look like:

    Project NAME
    SHOOTDATE_CAMERA_CARD#
Inside of the above folder is the entire contents of the P2 card.

Thanks Michael, very, very cool. Have you edited a long form piece this way with success? Thanks,
    Aren

I’ve done one hour finished pieces like this with XDCAM EX which is the same concept.
