    Hello Baeutiful People!!

I Thank You all in advance for your help.

    Here is my dilemma:

I come from Bolivia. So my background is basically editing SD or DV in a very intuitive manner and on Premiere Pro. Since there isn’t a PRO industry or market there, i havent had access to any type of education on these platforms.

I moved recently to Argentina, and im blessed enough to be working in a fine Production company.

I’ve been using FCP for a few months

Now i’m about to embark in a documentary journey.

    This is my Gear:

    Panasonic AG-HVX200 P2 camera.(Shooting all in 1080)

Macbook Pro (2.5 GHz intel core duo, 4 GB RAM, 250GB HDD)

    LACie 1TB External Drive.

Im terrified of the amount of footage we will generate, and how to organize and cut it later. Dont even get me started on the whole workflow thing!! im SCARED and i need HELP!!

    Questions:

    1) can you give me a step by step (dummie proof) workflow for this adventure?

    2) I can guess working with ProRes and EDL’s will be best. But i dont know how!! help?

    3) whats the proper steps to ingesting the P2 footage, organizing it, editing, and later generatingand EDL, connecting it with full quality footage and exporting ONLINE?

I dont know how to make an offline in FCP, how to make it? or anything else!

And ive been looking for FCP courses, but here its hard to get and for me harder to pay.

    IM TERRYFIIED!!!

I know im even being offensive, by even asking this, but i really feel passionate about this, but just havent had the acces to the proper education on software and worflows.

And soon i might even work with REDCAM…..SCARY AS WELL!!

TO WHO ANSWERS THIS AND SAVES ME…. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!

    ALL THE BEST,

    Esteban.

[Esteban Barriga Prado] “1) can you give me a step by step (dummie proof) workflow for this adventure?”

    First, watch this:

    P2 Workflow with FCP 6

That is the workflow for getting the information from the cards (backing up the footage) and into FCP.

[Esteban Barriga Prado] “2) I can guess working with ProRes and EDL’s will be best. But i dont know how!! help?”

Well…only if you shot AVCIntra would you be working with ProRes. If you shot DVCPRO HD you will be working native DVCPRO HD. And EDL? Nope…no way. Put EDL out of your mind as you will not be using one at all.

There is no OFFLINE/ONLINE workflow with P2. It is cutting at full quality from start to finish. If this is DVCPRO HD, then it is very easy and doesn’t take up much space. Seriously, I edited a 2 hour feature doc with 1TB of G-RAIDS. Cut, color correct, output. No EDL, no recapture.

Want to know how to organize your footage? Ok, I got another one for you:

    https://store.creativecow.net/p/63/getting_organized_in_final_cut_pro

A tutorial DVD on how to get organized in FCP. Step by step.

Also start reading my blog, https://www.LFHD.net. Go into the archives and start from the beginning. I talk about my issues and triumphs with the P2 workflow.

    Good luck.
