[Ashley McPike] ” know how to do the log and transfer process I just want to know what plug-in I need for my FCP to read the .MXF files and to avoid doing the log and transfer process.”

You will have to buy a copy for every computer you need to see the native files.

I am so confused. Why didn’t I have to log and transfer the P2 footage on my laptop, but I have to on my desktop? Does my laptop have some special plug-in to avoid logging and transferring the P2 footage?

    Ashley,

In FCP you have to use log and transfer to convert the .mxf files unless you look at a 3rd party solution that I think was mentioned above. If you’re looking for native P2 editing on the Mac, Premiere Pro and Avid will allow you to edit MXF files. Of course, with Adobe, you need an intel Mac in order to use Premiere Pro. I can’t tell you if Avid will still work on a G5.

Are the FCP versions same on both laptop and G5?

Secondly, I think this is second time that someone asked the same questions…

    Hi Tom,
I’m able to log and transfer my P2 footage into FCP but how can I do this and result in apple pro res vs. default DVC Pro? It seems as soon as I bring the footage into the log/transfer window, it’s already in DVCPro format.

I downloaded MPEG Streamclip but I seem to be converting DVCPRo files into apple pro res. Your (dumbed down) help would be much appreciated!

Good simple explanation about how to manage this process. Thanks
