I just changed out a Decklink Studio for the “2” as my order coincided with the realease. The following problem has now occured on the “2” that did not occur on the original Decklink Studio:

Still getting used to P2 HPX500 material. How can I figure out, electronically what Blackmagic Easy setup to use for the medida the crew give me?

I ingested (I hate that word!!!) material thru log and tranfer and all went well. However when I set my timeline for DVCPRO HD 720..anything…my timeline shows motion in the canvas and the monitor but the viewer only shows as I drag, or if I play shows only the start and end frames. I did not have this problem with this ftg with the first card – the “non 2”.

I found using Varicam setups help. I am posting this on FCP and Blackmagic in hopes of getting some help…it’s all so new. Thanks!

Well, ask them what they shot. Or look at the clip properties when you import them, and then choose the proper EASY SETUP that matches. It will be a DVCPRO HD one..but 720, 1080, 24p, 59.94i…all that depends on what they shot.

Best to go with the 8-bit settings…720p 59.94 if this was shot 720p, or 1080i 29.97 8-bit if 1080. Or matching frame rate to the footage. But 8-bit is what you choose.

They are shooting 720/24P, which I guess comes into FCP thru Log and Transfer as 30 frames? Anyway7 I have had my best luck so far using the easy setup: Blackmagic HDTV 720P 29.97 VariCam – DVCPRO HD. Does that make sense?

Yup. If it works, use it.

29.97 720P….then they shot 720p 30PN. That is the only way to get 29.97fps from 720p…it normally is a 59.94 format.

Oy, I am pretty confused. I just happened to read today that you cannot output the N native formats via 1394 but that’s just what I did. Any ideas?

The pN formats are non-standard and do not play live out of the firewire connection while shooting, but of course you can use the firewire to transfer the footage afterwards. At playback the camera will be adding extra frames as required to pad up to 59.94 which is required by the 720p spec.
