Importing some files from an HPX270 p2 camera. There are 4 channels of audio, typically Channels 3& 4 are camera internal mic and channels 1& 2 follow XLR inputs what ever they happen to be. In this case channel 1 was an on board camera mic and channel 2 was a radio mic from a podium mic. I can play the individual audio channels right in the finder from the archived camera card so I can hear the difference between the mics.
When Importing this card volume in FCPX 10.4 it appears that all 4 channels of audio are from the internal camera mic, once the clip is in the browser. All 4 channels sound the same and none of them are the radio mic from the podium.
So some where FCPX is messing up the imported audio from the card volume and assigning camera internal mic recording to all 4 channels.

Running FCPX 10.4 on a late model iMac 5K , OS is high Sierra, all system and FCPX updates are done.

Has anyone run into this problem before and if so what is the solution if there is one?

As something of a reality check, I tried importing the camera files into a different iMac running Sierra and FCPX 10.4 with identical results – all 4 audio channels are the same .

I’ve seen this problem reported a couple of times now. It must be a bug. I’d report it to Apple.

In the meantime, maybe something like EditReady can help get the footage in to a format that is working:

I’ve just experienced the exact same problem. Sent a report to Apple.

    AVC-Intra 100 (1080p30), Linear PCM
    FCP X 10.4.
There should be a left and right channels recorded (was using two different mikes.

FC sees it as four tracks identical. or if stereo 2 identical wave forms.

One of the two mikes not being picked up and the camera internal mikes are not picked up. Never had this in any other previous version of FCPX. I’m not using high sierra but rather 10.12.6. Does that mean anything?

    Imacs (i7); Canon 5D Mark III/70D, Panasonic HPX250P, FCP X 10.3, teach video production in L.A.

Has there been any solution offered from Apple? I’ve used P2 footage imported from my Panasonic HPX370 for 6 years and NEVER had this problem. I now have 2 projects within this last month (and only certain clips from the projects) that are having this “blending” problem where all my tracks sound the same. Channels 1/3 is the boom mic, and 2/4 is the lav mic on the talent and they all sound mixed or maybe it’s just giving me the boom, hard to tell. I’m panicking because I have to edit this interview and I don’t have good sound. I do have the clips backed up on a hard drive –is there another way to import so i get the channels separately? Hello Apple, what is going on?
Thanks to anyone who can provide some help.
    Best,
    Catherine

    Hi Catherine,

Bottom line try a clean install of the OS.

I tried the same media card in the same operating system on a different Mac and it read the audio just fine. So my next step is to do a clean install of my operating system. Debating if I want to go to High Sierra or Sierra which I have now. I use office 2018 and I don’t think it will work with High Sierra and all my writing and excel spreadsheets are on that program. So I need to look into that. But I’d like to upgrade because the latest update to FCP X has made significant steps. Think I’ll open some files using Apple’s apps and see if I can live with that and whether it reads my old files well or messes up all the formatting. Too much history to loose it all. Also I’d like to just get work done not spend all my time learning new apps.

10.4.3 was just released that hopefully solves this issue.
