    Hello,

Why is it when I export a quicktime movie from my fcp sequence the first time it works fine.

Then I make a change to the edit, and go to re-export it and select the same name as previous export…

    and I get

“File Error: the specified file is open and in use by this or another application?”

I have adjusted the privacy settings in Spotlight not to index the destination for my export, but this makes no difference.

I also tried repairing disk permissions on my capture drive (fibrenetix optical raid) but repair button is is greyed out in the disk utility…

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks!

FCP won’t let you overwrite a file that it’s using or aware of until you quit the program. Your choices are to either choose a different name for your 2nd export or drag the first export to the trash so it doesn’t get overwritten, or save the 2nd export to a different location, or quit FCP and trash your first movie, etc.
